Congressman David Cicilline's letter of Oct. 12-13 ("The time for job creation is now") clearly displayed how hypocritical he really is. His stories about individuals hurting were purely for show. The congressman should ask the citizens of Providence how much they are hurting from his mishandling of the city's finances or the teachers how they were feeling when they all got fired. I for one am not buying his act!
He also stated that we should have been talking about nothing but jobs since the bottom dropped out of our economy in 2008. He needs to be reminded that the Democratic Party and President Obama were much too busy ramming healthcare down our throats as they held full control of both houses and the executive office from 2008-2010. His statement that Washington has been engaged in one partisan stand-off after another, neglects to mention that he himself is part of that problem. He needs to go!
David Cicilline has no understanding of how our economy actually works. He calls for corporate reinvestment yet wants more government spending. In order for a recovery to succeed, the private sector and not the public sector need to create jobs. This must be done without increasing government spending. Government does not create wealth.
Congressman, the best thing you can do for the taxpayers of Rhode Island is to not seek re-election. You failed in Providence and left behind a fiscal mess and now you are failing in Congress. It is time for you to step aside and let someone who has the knowledge, skills and abilities to help move our nation ahead during these difficult times step up. Such an individual is unselfish and already has a strong record of serving our country and his name is John Loughlin.
Unlike the Congressman, I will honor the newspapers letters policy and not exceed 300 words.
Michael Napolitano
